You will hopefully feel a lot better after reading this article, most of our visitors enjoyed it and say that we should provide more of this kind of writing.

You may not have heard of the DASH diet, created by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute to help control hypertension.  In fact, DASH is short for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. In general the diet plan limits sodium intake and encourages people to eat nuts, whole grains, fish, poultry, as well as fruits and vegetables. It discourages eating red meat, sweets, and sugar. Here's more information about the DASH diet.

The DASH diet resulted from a series of studies that examined dietary plans and their results. The diet plan tells people what to eat, as well as how to substitute satisfying foods for junk food. This is important because when dieting many people miss the junk foods that they normally eat. Substituting something else for them that satisfies the body, helps avoid cheating and creates the possibility of maintaining a diet in the long-term. Processed foods are also out with this diet.

The DASH diet comes complete with a published guide book.  This guide shows the nutrition facts of many foods and shows their healthy alternatives. In addition, it spells out the DASH diet meal plans along with their nutritional information. The manual even has a list of resources to help maintain the diet, and how to obtain these resources.  It's one of the most complete guides that explains a diet plan.

The website Yahoo contains a detailed information page about the DASH diet.  It's complete with links to the guide, web sites of people who have followed the diet, and detailed diet plans.

Processed foods contain ¾ of the sodium found in the average diet, so the DASH diet discourages them. Hypertension can be minimized by removing processed foods, and thus sodium which causes both high blood pressure and hypertension, from the diet.

The DASH diet is far more than any fad diet. It was created after painstaking research, and many health experts believe in it.  Not only is it a great diet for people who have high blood pressure, but it's a great diet for anyone who wants to eat healthy.  If you start on the DASH diet today you will likely never have to deal with hypertension or high blood pressure. Make sure your physician is told about any diet changes you plan on making.
